The Risk Manager’s Journey – Evolution in Risk Management Practice
The scope of risk management has shifted from a traditional focus on insurable risks, to enterprise risk management (ERM) encompassing all categories of risk. The focus has expanded from “downside” risk (protecting value) to include “upside” risk (creating value). More recently, boards and executive leaders are also seeking to effectively address the risks affecting an organization’s strategy and execution of strategy (strategic risk management or SRM). This presentation will discuss the differences between traditional, ERM and SRM; the required knowledge, skills and competencies for risk management practitioners in each area; and importantly, how you can plan to evolve your practice and increase the value that risk management brings to your organization.
