    Our IT department is looking to contract with a vendor to dispose of our E-waste.  This vendor with then contract with 3 different vendors to dispose of the CRT's, computers, and other devices.  Most of the vendors they have looked at do not have pollution coverage, they all say they require this from their down stream vendors.

    I have concerns of this coming back to us many years down the road if something is not done correctly.  Has anyone else gone through this exercise and what did you require? 

    Any recommendations or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Lee,

    One recommendation would be to contact Don Andes at Technology Conservation Group http://wwwtcgrecycling 352-527-2534 with respect to removal of your EDP-computer waste.  Also, we ensure the main waste subcontractor has at a minimum Contractors Pollution Liability (CPL) - their coming on our premises, removing and transporting waste.  We also get them to maintain Pollution Legal Liability (PLL) for their sites because we'd be in the chain as a former waste owner.  Since most of the downstream sub-trades working under/for the main subcontractor likely won't have proper cover, we place the burden in our contract with the subcontractor so they will indemnify us not only for their actions but also that of their hired sub-trades and to get them in the loop as far as being responsible to ensure that their sub-trades are maintaining appropriate coverage and risk mgmt. processes.
