Service Project – Life Remodeled, Denby High School

When:  Aug 3, 2016 from 01:00 PM to 05:00 PM (ET)
Associated with  Detroit

For the second consecutive year, RIMS Detroit and our risk management partners are going to put boots on the ground in our local community. If you served at Osborn High School last year, you’ll know how rewarding an experience it was. This year we have the chance to help turn around the Denby community, which is located on Detroit’s upper east-side. As we did last year, we’ll be involved in all aspects of blight removal and beautification, so come prepared to work hard and get dirty!

Who is Life Remodeled? Life Remodeled is a Detroit-based nonprofit that seeks to remodel lives along with neighborhoods, schools and homes. Our annual volunteer workforce of 10,000 comes from community organizations, churches, businesses and people who just care about Detroit. Every phase of our project is about people, those served and those who are serving. Relationships born of this approach create transformation and sustainable neighborhoods that are crucial to making Detroit’s revitalization permanent.

What’s the scope of this year’s project?

  • Build a new park, adjacent to Denby High School – installing recreation amenities, green spaces, and landscaping in line with the vision developed by Denby High School students.
  • Help LifeBuilders build their new community center.
  • Renovate 50 homes.
  • 10,000 volunteers to work in the Denby neighborhood Aug 1 – 6, 2016.
  • Remove blight and beautify 300 city blocks.
  • Board up 300 houses.
  • Demarcate safe pathways to school.
  • Life Remodeled partners to continue to invest in the community after the project.
