Christopher Cowan, ARM, ARM-P
Chris Cowan joined the IOC Black Hawk HR Team as Risk Manager in February 2012. He manages risk and self-insured programs for the Lady Luck and Isle Casinos, Hotels and Restaurants in Black Hawk, Colorado.
Chris began his career in the insurance industry in 1989 as a multi-line Commercial Property and Casualty Adjuster with Custard Insurance Adjusters and Custard Claims Management handling and managing business loss, workers compensation, and public entity claims. His expertise is comprised of managing commercial general liability, property and workers compensation loss exposures and claims as well as insurance program management.
For over 23 years, Chris held positions within the insurance and risk industries including: Branch, Claims, and Division Manager positions at Custard Insurance; Vice President and Regional Manager at GE Young & Co., Director Consultant at Risk Services of Colorado; and President at Denver-Boulder Claim Services. As side projects, Chris taught classes through the Insurance Training Network and was acting Product Consultant for SilverPlume/Vertafore's Sage P&C products.
Chris’ current responsibilities include risk control, loss prevention and analysis, workers’ compensation and general liability loss mitigation and claims management, systems safety, contingency planning, insurance, and OSHA compliance and training. He not only manages risks associated with accidental losses, but also applies risk management processes to employment practice, human, financial, legal, and operational risks.
Chris achieved the Associate in Risk Management (ARM) and Associate in Risk Management for Public Entity (ARM-P) designations in 2007. This fall he will begin studying for the Enterprise Risk Management (ARM-E) designation through the Insurance Institute of America.
Chris earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Georgia Southern University after completing an Associate of Arts degree from Young Harris Private College.
