Rich Johanson has worked in the insurance and risk management industry for over 17 years. He currently works as Risk Manager at Leidos, Inc., formerly known as Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC). Leidos is a scientific, engineering, and technology applications company serving federal and local government agencies and select commercial markets in the areas of national security, engineering, and health IT infrastructure. Prior employers include 24 Hour Fitness, Crawford & Company and Macy's.
Rich's professional duties include policy placement and claims administration for primary and excess casualty, aviation, marine, E&O and other specialty lines of insurance. He also conducts contract reviews, participates in due diligence on mergers & acquisitions and provides insurance training sessions for company business managers.
Additionally Rich served on the board of directors for the San Diego Chapter of the Risk & Insurance Management Society from 2006-2013, including two years as chapter president. He currently serves as Chairman of the RIMS Member & Chapter Services Committee.
Rich obtained a master’s degree in business administration (MBA) from Cal State San Marcos in 2007, and obtained his Associate in Risk Management (ARM) and Associate in Claims (AIC) designations in 2004. In 1997 Rich obtained his bachelor of arts degree in Spanish with a minor in finance from San Diego State University. Rich’s undergraduate studies included a year at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in Spain, where he hopes to return some day to visit.
When not working, Rich enjoys spending time with his wife and two teenage sons at their home in Stone Ridge, VA. Rich is also an Eagle Scout and currently volunteers as an Assistant Scoutmaster for his sons’ Boy Scout troop in Northern Virginia.
