Biography: Monica Merrifield, B.A. (Hons), CRM
Monica Merrifield is the Vice President of Risk Intelligence for the YMCA of Greater Toronto. During her extensive career, Monica has championed the evolution of the YMCA’s risk strategy from a hazards focus, to a more strategic and integrated approach that protects and enhances value. Her work in recent years includes designing and implementing ERM, strategic risk management, business continuity, policy development, privacy risk management programs at the YMCA. She also leads a national risk management and group insurance program for large YMCAs in major cities across Canada.
Monica is currently Vice Chair of the RIMS Strategic Risk Management Development Council, comprised of risk thought leaders and practitioners who are advancing strategic risk management methodologies and tools for business leaders and risk management professionals worldwide.
Her recent collaborations include co-authoring the RIMS Strategic Risk Management Implementation Guide, and a white paper on privacy risk management with Ontario’s Information and Privacy Commissioner, as well as contributing to CICA's 20 Questions Directors of Not-for-Profit Organizations Should Ask about Risk.
Monica is a recipient of the 2008 Risk Innovator Award from Risk & Insurance Magazine and is the 2012 RIMS ERM Award of Distinction winner. She is frequently invited to speak on risk management in the non-profit and charitable sectors and on how to embed risk thinking into daily operations and strategy.
