Joanna Makomaski is an internationally recognized Enterprise Risk Management senior professional with experience in the energy and healthcare industry. Joanna is passionate about creating risk conscience cultures where risk management is a daily part of corporate decision-making. Her unique background and performance-management approach has helped firms achieve sustainable growth goals and increase shareholder value all while ensuring highest safety and social responsibility records.
Currently, as Chief Risk Officer and a member of HealthNow New York Inc.’s executive team, Makomaski carries the responsibility for strategic and operational risk governance and enterprise-wide risk management. Previously Makomaski served as the senior ERM specialist for V3 Advisory Group. She also functioned as the risk and insurance manager for Enbridge. Makomaski is also an instructor for the Risk and Insurance Management Society, teaching Risk Management principles across North America, and is regular columnist for Risk and Insurance magazine.
Makomaski was chosen as one the “100 most influential people in finance” in June 2007 recognized for “elevating risk management to rocket science” by Treasury and Risk magazine. She was also named by industry peers as the top 100 members of the Risk Who’s Who international honorary society. Makomaski co-authored ERM for Dummies© an easy-to-read reference guide for implementing Enterprise Risk Management programs.
