Cyber extortion events are on the rise and pose a threat to organizations. Join us to learn more about what to expect from both an organizational and technical response to cyber extortion events. Kurt Suhs will share real world experiences and provide information about what an organization can expect and best practices. Clay Blankenship will provide a technical deep dive into how a phishing attack affects your organization’s information technology systems and what your information security personnel are doing to identify and mitigate an intrusion.

As Managing Director, Incident Response Analyst, retired detective, cybercrimes investigator and digital forensics trainer, Clay has amassed a wealth of experience high technology crime investigations. To date, Clay has worked in many major U.S. cities and several foreign countries around the world. Prior to joining Ankura, Clay was an engagement lead and analyst at IBM. Prior to that, Clay was a detective with the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office where he specialized in computer crime investigations. Clay headed the computer crime unit and was the department liaison to the National White-Collar Crime Center (NW3C) and the Northern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC). Clay has received specialized computer crime and forensics training from the International Association of Computer Investigative Specialist (IACIS), the International Society of Computer Forensics Examiners (ISFCE), ICAC, Sumuri, SANS, AccessData, and BitSec Global Forensics, and Carnegie Melon University, Clay has been recognized as a trainer and instructor in basic computer forensics by IACIS and the ISFCE. At Ankura, Clay is currently working as Managing Director and manages the teams handling the incident response investigations for Ankura customers across North America and abroad who are experiencing computer and network security threats.

Earlier in his career Kurt was an Investigator with the FDIC where he investigated financial institution fraud and professional liability claims for failed banks. He also represented the FDIC in the New England Bank Fraud Working Group, assisted the FBI in criminal investigations, and performed FIRREA forfeitures and seizures. He taught courses on financial institution fraud, directors’ and officers’ liability insurance, criminal restitution recovery and civil asset forfeitures at the FDIC’s national training facility in Washington D.C.
