SESSIONS:
Cyber Security Table Top Exercise (presented by Stephen Atkinson & Dan Coyle, BFL)
Cyber incidents demand more than technical response—they require strong leadership, clear governance, and disciplined decision making under pressure. This seminar explores how cyber tabletop exercises can be used as a strategic tool to strengthen organizational readiness, elevate the role of the Insurance Risk Manager within the crisis cell, and reinforce effective board and executive oversight.
Participants will examine how well designed tabletop exercises enable the C suite to drive the response rather than react, clarify escalation triggers, and define the boundary between management’s operational responsibilities and the board’s oversight role. The session highlights the critical importance of pre established incident response plans (IRPs), tested escalation ladders, and integrated use of third party breach coaches, legal counsel, IT forensics, PR firms, and cyber insurers.
The seminar also connects tabletop outcomes to broader cyber maturity efforts, including staff training, board level cyber risk reporting, and integration of lessons learned into risk registers and strategic planning. Attendees will gain practical insights to reduce chaos, liability, and governance risk—before a real cyber crisis occurs.
AI as a Risk Tool—Not a Risk Itself: The Future of Forensic Engineering (presented by Ahman Shahroodi, EFI Global)
Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming forensic engineering by enhancing the analysis of failures, accidents, and performance deficiencies. Through advanced data processing, pattern recognition, and the ability to evaluate large and complex datasets—including sensor records, imagery, and simulation outputs—AI enables faster and more consistent identification of root causes.
The integration of AI offers significant benefits, including improved analytical depth, increased accuracy, reduced variability between assessments, and stronger support for evidence based conclusions. However, these advantages are balanced by important limitations: AI tools rely heavily on the quality and completeness of available data, some models lack transparency in their internal decision making processes, and results can be misinterpreted if used without appropriate engineering oversight.
Accordingly, while AI provides powerful new capabilities for forensic investigations, it does not replace the need for professional engineering judgment. Expert review, contextual interpretation, and critical evaluation remain essential to ensure that outcomes are reliable, accurate, and defensible in both technical and legal contexts.
