M&A in Risk Management

Topic:  Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) can take a variety of forms, each with specific requirements and pitfalls for the acquiring company’s risk management team.  We will identify some of those pitfalls and discuss the stages of M&A as they relate to risk management.

Speakers:  Mike Epstein, Vice President, Risk Management & Business Continuity at The E.W. Scripps Company

Mike joined The E.W. Scripps Company in 2014 and in January of 2018 was promoted to vice president with an expansion of responsibilities well beyond risk management. He is responsible for traditional risk management, business continuity, incident management, enterprise risk, physical security, sourcing and real estate.  His oversight of Scripps operations ranges from insurance placement and situational risk assessment/direction to working with local authorities to resolve security threats at the local level to service vendor selection and negotiation to new site selection and build-out.

 Mike has worked in the risk management industry for nearly five years and the business continuity industry for 20, holding CBCP and MBCI certifications.  

Mike has served as a guest speaker at various conferences ranging from the Risk and Insurance Management Society where he spoke on operational resilience tools and thought processes for the Risk Management professional to the World Conference on Disaster Management and Disaster Recovery Institute International (DRII) speaking on the integration of Business Continuity and Enterprise Risk Management. Additionally, he volunteers his time and helps local non-profits improve their risk, continuity and incident management programs.
