Staff of Fairfax County Department of Emergency Management & Security and the Risk Management Division

Fairfax County is located in Northern Virginia just outside Washington, D.C., and ranks among the top 50 most populous counties in the United States. It serves as a major national economic and technology hub, driven by corporate headquarters and an exceptionally rated public school system. The county blends this rapid urban growth with rich historical and natural attractions, from George Washington's Mount Vernon to the expansive parklands of Great Falls Park.

To protect both its workforce and the community, the Fairfax County Department of Emergency Management and Security (DEMS) coordinates countywide disaster mitigation, preparedness, and emergency response, using systems like Fairfax Alerts to keep citizens informed during crises. Operating in tandem, the county's Risk Management Division acts as an internal insurance safeguard, managing claims, workplace safety, and insurance programs to protect public assets and limit financial liabilities. Together, these agencies ensure a resilient infrastructure by equipping employees with workplace safety training while empowering residents through community readiness initiatives like Ready Fairfax.
