Bio

Lance J. Ewing has extensive executive experience in the field of risk management and insurance including his current role as VP ERM for Cotton Holdings Inc.  He was also the VP ERM for the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, leading their ERM Committee and establishing their first captive. Prior to this role, he was EVP global risk management for Cotton Holdings, Inc. Previously he was VP industry practice group leader at AIG (real estate and hospitality) with a portfolio of $1.4B of GWP. He also served in senior risk management capacities for Caesars Entertainment, GES Exposition Services/VIAD and for the City of Philadelphia School District. Mr. Ewing additionally worked for several insurance companies in risk management, underwriting, claims and risk control capacities. Lance was also President of three successful and innovative insurance captives. Mr. Ewing received his Master's degree in Law & Justice from the University of Pittsburgh and completed his second Master's degree in Occupational Safety Engineering. In addition to his Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation and his International Certified Risk Manager (CRM) designation, he has completed his Enterprise Risk Management Professional designation (ERMP). Lance has served on the advisory/client boards of Willis, AIG, AHLA, the National Alliance for Insurance Education, and recently Chair of the Risk Management Program at the University of Mississippi. Lance was the keynote speaker for the Asia CEO Forum on Hospitality. He was named the Risk Innovator of the Year (Treasury & Risk) and Lance was named Risk Manager of the Year (Business Insurance). RIMS bestowed upon Lance its highest award as the Goodell Award Winner for Lifetime Achievement in Risk Management,  He has authored numerous articles on insurance, risk management, crisis management, governance & compliance, complex claims management and workers' compensation. He is a frequent speaker on enterprise risk management, high value claims and risk financing. Mr. Ewing is an expert witness as part of the Insurance Expert Network and also a member of the International OCEG (Compliance & Ethics). Recently Lance has been championing as a speaker Human Trafficking prevention in the hospitality industry. Lance was National President 2003-2004 for the Risk & Insurance Management Society (RIMS) and was also their first Chief Risk Officer (CRO). He teaches risk management as a faculty member for the National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research. He also served as a Board member for the Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) Board. He serves on the University of Mississippi Business School (Risk Management) Board and has a scholarship named after him at the University. He is also an Advisory Board Member for the East Carolina University RMI program.  Lance has spoken and worked internationally to promote insurance, claims and risk management. Mr. Ewing continues to be a strong and outspoken supporter of GRC (governance, risk & compliance), ERM (enterprise risk management) and the risk management profession. He was awarded RIMS highest honor as the Harry & Dorothy Goodell Lifetime Achievement Award in Risk Management.
