Bio

Gary has over 30 years of experience in all aspects of Risk Management, EHS management, occupational safety, industrial hygiene and toxicology. Gary is currently Associate Vice President of Risk Management and Chief Risk Officer at California State University Sacramento, where he directs Enterprise Risk Management, EHS, Workers Compensation, Insurance, Emergency Management and Business Continuity and ADA for the campus of over 35,000 students, faculty and staff. Previously to joining CSUS, he had an executive role in the private sector as Global EHS Director for Nike. From 2014-15 he was the Senior Director of the Campbell Institute, the EHS Center of Excellence at the National Safety Council, one of the world's leading non-profit safety organizations. Earlier in his career Gary was the Risk Manager for the City of Palm Desert in Southern California for 10 years and was a corporate EHS manager at ARCO which included the role of OSHA regulatory affairs manager. Gary was nominated in 2010 by the US Secretary of Labor to a 2 year term on NACOSH, the National Advisory Committee that provides advice and thought leadership to executive management at OSHA and NIOSH. He was the ISHN magazine's Top 100 EHS Pros in 2012. His areas of expertise include Enterprise Risk and EHS strategic planning for excellence, creating cutting edge solutions for management, chemical safety and toxicology, EHS and Risk Management software solutions, designing predictive Risk metrics, and building employee engagement and trust. He is a frequent keynote presenter at Risk Management, Safety, EHS and other related national and international conferences.
