Kim Hunton, MPA, FCIP, RF Corporate Risk Manager City of Ottawa Kim is the Corporate Risk Manager for the City of Ottawa - Canada’s capital city. On January 1, 2001, 11 cities and the regional transit authority amalgamated into this mega city. Prior to becoming the new City’s first risk manager, Kim was the Manager, Corporate Security and Risk Management for the now-amalgamated transit authority, the Ottawa-Carleton Regional Transit Commission. Currently, Kim is championing the evolution of the City’s risk strategy from a hazards focus to a more strategic and integrated approach. Her work in recent years includes designing and implementing Enterprise Risk Management. Kim has been an active member of RIMS for more than two decades. She continues to serve on the Ottawa Chapter’s Board of Directors and was the chapter President for a two-year term. She has also served as the Chair of the RIMS Canada Council. In September 2011, Kim co-chaired the RIMS Canada Conference held in Ottawa. Kim served from 2000 to 2003 on RIMS Conference Programming Committee. In 2003, she joined RIMS Board of Directors. In 2004, she was chosen as Vice-Chair of the Audit Committee, which she filled until taking over as Chair of the Audit Committee in 2006. After an absence from the Board due to an automobile accident, she rejoined the RIMS Board of Directors in 2011 and served a further three year term. Outside of RIMS, Kim served nine years on the Board of the American Public Transit Association’s Risk Management Committee including as Chair from 2000 to 2003. She is frequently invited to speak at seminars and conferences and enjoys honing her speaking skills through membership at Toastmasters where she has earned ATM-S (Advanced Toastmaster-Silver) and CL (Competent Leader) designations. Kim’s proudest career moment occurred in 2006 when she was chosen as the recipient of the Don Stuart Award, Canada’s highest honour for risk management. A graduate of Carleton University where she earned both a Bachelor's degree and Masters in Public Administration, she is also a Fellow, Chartered Insurance Professional and was in the first group of Canadian graduates in the RIMS Fellow program.
