RIMS Introduces New "Church Risk Management" Industry Group

By Michael Boutot posted 07-02-2009 03:13 PM

We have just started a new "Church Risk Management" industry e-Group with the assistance of Andy Steggles, CIO with RIMS.  All are welcome to join, even if you are not a RIMS member.  Go to http://go.rims.org/ChurchRisk.

The Institute for Church Safety & Risk Management (ICSARM) was formed with the church and para-church organizations in mind.  With an estimated 400,000 churches, temples and synagogues in the United States alone, more and more people are finding the church as a place to go for solace.  Unfortunately, as churches grow and the number of churches grow, so also do various risks and exposures.

It is the goal of ICSARM and it’s Executive Director, Michael Boutot, to help educate the church and their staff that there are resources available to help the large mega-churches who can afford a detailed risk management program to the smaller churches, who on their own, would not be able to benefit from the avaibale resources due to a limited budget.  In fact, with the median church in America averaging less than 100 attendees on a given day of worship, it is fair to say that the “average” church is without hope in asserting their rights and responsibility towards protection.  That is, until ICSARM.

As a global leader church in risk management:

  1. ICSARM serves its members and affiliates by providing timely and innovative general information, legal information, education, networking, legislative activity and advocacy as relates to the local church;
  2. ICSARM seeks to identify Approved Service Providers (ASPs) to serve as affiliates to its mission and assist in meeting the needs of its members;
  3. ICSARM promotes the integrity of our church risk management disciplines by attracting new and diverse members and ASPs, and encouraging strong and engaged state and local chapters;
  4. ICSARM supports the integration of church risk management throughout a church or para-church organization;
  5. ICSARM seeks to establish an internationally recognized education and certification program for church risk managers.
