Soubhagya Parija is currently the SVP and Chief Risk Officer at the New York Power Authority, nation’s largest public owned power utility. Parija has a diverse experience in risk management involving working in different industries such as retail and energy as well as in a set of large and small companies during a course of more than two decades. Prior to accepting the current position, Parija was in a leadership role in risk management at Walmart’s international division.
Parija started his career in India after obtaining a Master’s degree in Economics from the Jawaharlal Nehru University, one of the top educational institutions in the country. Upon moving to the United States, Parija completed his MBA with a concentration in Finance and Information Systems from the Kelley School of Business, Indiana University.
Parija has significant interest in furthering risk management as a discipline which has led him to engage in speaking at various forums and offering his services on a voluntary basis to bodies such as RIMS. Parija currently serves on RIMS Board of Directors and was a member of its ERM committee from 2008 through 2011.
