Greetings MN RIMS Members, Associates and Students,
I hope you had a chance to attend the October meeting; it was a discussion on Directors and Officers Liability Insurance. It was well attended and we had a great discussion during the question and answer period.
The Seminar Committee, led by Steve Slette, is planning a robust curriculum for the big event on January 29th, 2015. You will soon receive “hold the date” information and registration materials.
The Nominating Committee will soon begin to consider candidates for the board and committees for the Chapter’s 2015/16 fiscal year. We encourage Members and Associates to participate in Committees – it is a great way to deepen your network! If you are interested in serving please contact me!
The Spencer Foundation has provided its annual announcement to member companies to apply for internship funding and to student to apply for scholarships. What began as a way to honor a colleague’s memory has become an industry institution. Robert Spencer was a risk manager who was very active in RIMS, serving as its President in the late-1970s.
This year the Spencer Foundation:
* awarded a record 65 scholarships totaling $394,000
* provided 30 grants of $3,500 each to RIMS-member companies to fund summer
internships
* promoted the industry through a record 25 Risk Manager in Residence grants
* funded the Anita Benedetti Student Involvement Program as well as supported
the Gamma Iota Sigma and RIMS ERM conferences
The foundation is already accepting applications for our 2015 programs and our chapter members could benefit:
* Internship Grants: Spencer will increase this grant to $4,000 in 2015 for RIMS-
member companies to hire a summer intern in their Risk Management
Departments. Information and applications are available here and are due by
January 9, 2015.
Watch Jo Harris (Dean Foods) and Debbie Rodgers (Aramark) talk about the internship program.
Risk Manager in Residence: We are always looking for risk managers who want to
share their knowledge and experience with the next generation. These 1 – 3 day programs provide that opportunity.

* Watch Dan Kugler discuss his experiences with the Foundation including the Risk Manager in Residence Program
* Part-time master’s degree scholarships – The Foundation offers scholarships of up to $10,000 to industry professionals pursuing advanced degrees in risk management/insurance on a part-time basis. Applications will be available on our website (www.spencered.org) in January.
* Undergraduate/Graduate scholarships: If your chapter works with students, please let them know we are currently accepting applications for our 2015 scholarships. They need to be submitted by January 31. Our application platform can be accessed through our website.
