If you have extra dry skin, oily skin or a combination of both, you may feel that a clear skin without blemishes and an even complexion is out of your reach. Here are some ways to get rid of your skin problems and have a skin that feels soft and moist instead of dull, dry or flaky.

  1. Use essentials oils for acne

Acne can be unsightly and if it’s left untreated, it can cause scarring and diminish self-confidence. Many people with acne turn to prescription drugs or chemical treatments and harsh chemicals can have serious side effects. Essential oils have the ability to kill bacteria on the skin naturally.

Some essential oils, like lavender, protect the skin and soothe irritation and stress. If you’re looking for the best essential oil for acne, tea tree, lavender, clary sage and juniper berry all have powerful positive benefits. These oils have antimicrobial and antibacterial properties.

  1. Stay hydrated

One of the biggest favors you can do for your skin is to stay hydrated. Drinking enough water not only improves your overall health but can do wonders for your skin which is the largest organ in your body. When you drink enough water, you help your digestive system to flush toxins out of your body.

Your body loses water every day and if you don’t replenish it, your skin becomes tight, dry, flaky and more prone to aging. Simply drinking enough water can help you to combat a variety of skin issues, including eczema and psoriasis. If you want to develop a glow from the inside out, drink enough water.

  1. Find out about your skin type

You need to know whether you have oily skin, dry skin or a combination of both if you want to care for it effectively. If a product isn’t right for your skin type, it won’t be as effective, could aggravate your skin and may even cause new problems. If you have large pores, it’s a sign that your skin is oily.

Hormonal changes can cause enlarged pores and too much oil and you need to decrease the oil to eliminate shine. You may need to use astringents to balance oil production. Products designed with dry skin in mind are usually water-based to add moisture to the skin. There are also products designed specifically for combination skin.

  1. Look for products that contain ceramides

Ceramides are naturally occurring lipids that are found in high concentrations in the upper layers of skin. They help it to retain moisture, fortify the protective barrier and keep it looking plump and smooth. The protective layer limits moisture loss and protects against the visible damage from pollution and other environmental stressors.

Age and sun damage can reduce natural ceramides, weakening the natural barrier. The results are irritation, redness, dryness, wrinkles and signs of dehydration. This is why ceramides are often found in skin formulations as they form an important component of skin hydration.

  1. Invest in a vitamin A product

Vitamin A-related compounds or retinoids are really good for brightening the skin and giving it a glow. They work by accelerating the normal skin cell turnover rate. Old skin cells are replaced by new, young skin cells that are better able to retain moisture.

Retinol is best to use for just a few days a week in the beginning as it can initially cause irritation and redness. Side effects only last while your skin is adjusting and you will benefit from its ability to exfoliate your skin, help with collagen production, and fight free radicals.
