SEEKING AWESOME PEOPLE FOR THE NARIMS BOARD
Calling all risk professionals
With the 2018-19 program year drawing to a close, the Northern Alberta Risk & Insurance Management (“NARIMS”) chapter extends a heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone for their continued support and participation in our risk and insurance management community. We’d like to invite you to an amazing and rewarding volunteer opportunity to participate on the NARIMS board.
Build your skills, network with colleagues, help promote the industry and stay up to date with emerging risks and trends. The roster is open for both new and returning chapter directors and officers. Please send a quick email to NARIMS secretary confirming your interest prior to May 8, 2019.

Does the idea pique your interest? Do you have a colleague who would be a great fit? Nominations are now open and yes, you are free to nominate yourself as well! Note that nominees for elected positions must be RIMS members in good standing.
This is also a very special year for the Northern Alberta RIMS chapter. Not only is it the 40th anniversary of our chapter, we are also hosting the annual RIMS Canada Conference right here in Edmonton September 8-11. Registration will be opening up mid-May, and in the meantime feel free to click the picture below to visit the conference website which has live updates as well as a place to sign up to be an exhibitor or sponsor.
Still unsure if chapter volunteering is for you?
NOTICE OF BY-LAW AMENDMENTS
In order to comply with our by-laws, the board of directors is providing notice to members on proposed amendments to the NARIMS by-laws.
The proposed amendments are to be brought forward for membership’s consideration and ratification at the June 2019 AGM (date to be confirmed).
Why is NARIMS amending its by-laws?
The by-laws were last amended in 2005 and the board of directors is proposing amendments to align with recent changes on board of directors eligibility adopted by RIMS as well as to comply with the Societies Act.
What are the proposed amendments?
A summary of the proposed amendments can be found in attached documents.
Notable proposed amendments include:
- Expand Article 2 with additional definitions, additional interpretation articles, and all special resolutions to require 21 days’ notice to members to comply with the Societies Act;
- Replace Article 7.3 with new board eligibility requirements in alignment with changes at RIMS;
- Removal of articles no longer deemed relevant to NARIMS; and
- Amendments to include gender-neutral identity throughout.
Who can I contact for more information or to provide feedback?
Questions or feedback can be provided to the NARIMS secretary.
