Broker relationships are often complicated, and for any number of reasons it becomes necessary to undergo a broker selection process, and as part of that process a request for proposal (“RFP”). Last year Layne Ashton developed and managed an RFP at Lamb Weston, the results of which included a Y-o-Y savings $>700k over the expiring insurance program. Layne will share, from start to finish, the process Lamb Weston went through in selecting a new broker, including the participation of five brokerages.
Layne Ashton has a cumulative total of 16 years’ experience in loss control, risk management and commercial insurance. Layne was most recently Director of Insurance & Risk Management at Lamb Weston, Inc., a U.S.-based French fry manufacturer with the largest market share in North America, and #2 market share world-wide. At Lamb Weston, Layne oversaw a staff responsible for managing insurance renewals, claims and broker relationships as well as a 17-plant loss control survey and inspection program, business continuity planning, and crisis management planning. Immediately before Lamb Weston, Layne held the Risk Manager position at EnergySolutions. Layne holds two Bachelor’s Degrees from the University of Utah, and a Master’s Degree from Georgetown University.
