Insurance Risk Associate Manager - Best Buy - Richfield, MN

As an Insurance Risk Associate Manager, you’ll play a key role in the success of the Enterprise Insurance Risk group and will assist in the placement and administration of Best Buy’s corporate insurance programs. You’ll gather and analyze loss and exposure data to support insurance program strategy and management. You’ll also maintain service provider relationships and ensure accountability.

This role is hybrid, which means you will be required to work some days on-site at the Best Buy location listed on this posting and some days virtually from home or other non-Best Buy location. The specific work arrangements vary by role and team. The recruiter or hiring manager will provide more details during the hiring process.

What you’ll do

  • Compile and prepare data used for renewal submissions
  • Coordinate timely receipt of all policy documentation and manage payment of premiums and taxes
  • Develop and maintain database of insurance schedules and policy detail
  • Schedule weekly office hours to review and consult with Procurement and Legal teams on insurance provisions
  • Ensure accurate and timely payment of state premiums and assessments
  • Partner with internal customers to manage Best Buy’s surety program

Basic qualifications

  • 3 years of corporate risk management experience or with an insurance broker or carrier.
  • Foundational knowledge of property and casualty insurance principles
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities to improve processes

The opportunity

We currently have an opportunity for a Compliance Consultant to join our Legal team based in our Plymouth, MN office on a hybrid schedule. This position is responsible for fielding a high volume of broad scope customer service requests/inquiries from agents, insureds and field staff. Responsible for coordinating the resolution of issues/problems raised by callers. Some of the Compliance Consultant responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Promote the U.S. compliance function part of a global framework
  • Be a source of trusted compliance advice to the company’s management team
  • Participate in the development and fulfillment of a robust annual Compliance plan
  • Draft, review and maintain compliance-related policies and procedures

The expertise you bring

Our salary ranges are determined by many factors including location, role, experience, and skillset of the candidate. The following ranges displayed reflect the target base salary for new hires, but your recruiter will share more specific compensation information with you during the hiring process. The typical base salary range for this position is: $105,000 – $139,000, based on the factors aforementioned. For candidates located in San Francisco, CA; Hoboken, NJ; and the New York City metro area, the base salary range is $122,000 -$142,000. In addition to base salary, full time Intact employees are also eligible for bonus potential and a full range of benefits to include but not limited to:

Position Responsibilities:
  • Plan and schedule own workload to most efficiently meet benchmarks, prioritizing according to risk and urgency with minimal supervision.
  • Provide premier customer service to investors, borrowers, agents, and other Northmarq staff. Understand others’ complex or underlying needs, motivations, or concerns and effectively communicate with all parties despite the sensitivity of the situation.
  • Conduct due diligence of loan documents and lender requirements to ensure proper loan setup and servicing of the loan.
  • Monitor and collect Evidence of Insurance, upon expiration.
  • Audit insurance certificates and policies to ensure conformity with investor and company regulations at renewal, interpreting complex policy language to ensure proper policy performance and compliance.
  • Maintain and update commercial mortgage insurance files and servicing system files.
  • Identify potential risks for the company and the investor and promptly notify the appropriate parties following identification of any coverage issue, deficiency, or lapse in coverage.
  • Maintain a high level of commercial insurance expertise, quality, understanding of risk, and possible outcomes due to coverage non-compliance.
  • Analyze insurance deficiencies, corresponding risks, and possible impacts on property financial performance.

This position is in the finance department and will report to the Vice President of Corporate Development and Treasury, in Golden Valley, Minnesota. You will be responsible for identifying, managing, and securing insurance coverage for operational and strategic risk encompassed by $4 billion global manufacturer of consumer and industrial products and services. Negotiate with global insurance markets for pricing and terms across multiple layers and lines of coverage. Lead in managing claims and obtaining maximum coverage for insured losses. Develop and implement policies and procedures for overall risk management of the organization. Lead integrated risk management framework that aggregates quantitative and qualitative risks across the enterprise, leverages systems and data management capabilities to support risk management programs, and improves the understanding of risk policies and limits to all business stakeholders. Ensures the organization's risk management policies and strategies are in compliance with applicable regulations, rating agency standards, and strategic imperatives of the organization. 

You will:

  • Obtain optimal pricing and terms for all coverages including property, executive risk, and casualty/general liability.
  • Drive insurance renewal process and communicate market conditions and key decision points early and often to executive leadership.
  • Work closely with finance department to create forecasts and budgets and plan for anticipated shifts in insurance markets.
  • Manage eight-figure insurance program to budget.
  • Run captive insurance company and ensure compliance with Vermont captive regulations.
  • Set and manage reserves for claims and litigated matters in collaboration with third-party administrator and in-house litigation counsel.
  • Recommend changes in policy and practice to enable organization to establish and achieve risk management goals.
  • Partner with Environmental Health & Safety professionals to identify and implement safety enhancements and loss reduction strategies; develop and deploy initiatives to reduce claim frequency, severity, and cost in collaboration with operating divisions.
  • Respond swiftly to major losses and emergencies as they arise anytime and anywhere around the globe.
  • Collaborate and consult with Associate General Counsel, Litigation on risk valuation and reserve setting for insured matters.
  • Cultivate and maintain TPA, Broker and Carrier relationships.
  • Report works comp and auto claims to third-party providers and oversee claims management.
  • Conduct due diligence on risk and insurance issues for M&A transactions.
  • Review supplier, vendor, and customer contracts for insurance and risk issues and counsel stakeholders on preferred terms.
  • Train and empower team members in process for obtaining Certificates of Insurance.


Key Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree and/or advanced degree in Risk Management, Business, or Finance, and/or advanced certification such as ARM, CPCU, or other insurance industry accreditation.
  • Minimum 10 years risk management/loss prevention experience.
    Global manufacturing and services delivery experience, including broad understanding of enterprise risk management principles.
  • Knowledge and experience with captive insurance companies.
  • Facility with actuarial analysis and models.

Compensation:

For this full-time position working at this location, the anticipated annualized base pay range will be from $149000 - $276700 / year. At Pentair, it is not typical for an individual to be hired near the bottom or top of the pay range. Pentair considers various factors in determining actual compensation for this position at the expected location. Actual compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, work location, and other relevant business or organizational needs.

This position may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as, annual incentive bonus.

Risk Management is responsible for identifying and evaluating the Council's exposure to loss through risk control and risk financing methods. The department develops, recommends, and implements appropriate risk management strategies and programs to protect the agency from the adverse impact of loss. It also self-administers all auto liability and workers' compensation claims.

The Director - Risk Management develops, implements, and manages a Council-wide risk management program that facilitates the Council's business objectives with minimal exposure to risk.

What you would do in this job
Develop strategies, processes, controls, and measures for the Council’s operational risk management program.
Negotiate contracts to include risk transfer language that can be quantified and financed (e.g., insurance, self-insurance, etc.) on a long-term basis, contributing to the ongoing operational success of the project.
Working with Executive Management and other stakeholders, identify parameters for risk retention that are easily understood and measured.
Develop process with business units that coordinates adherence to risk parameters and operations.
Provide ongoing analysis of emerging risks and develop strategies to manage such risks.
Develop, implement, and monitor ongoing risk management effectiveness (Key Performance Indicators) on a Council-wide and divisional basis.  
Develop a long-term risk management plan for the construction and operations of Council projects (e.g., transit, ES expansion).

Develop department goals for claim management and risk management, providing clear direction to claim supervisors/managers.

Develop risk transfer language (insurance/indemnification) to be used as a template for contracts. Periodically adjust language based on statutory or industry changes.
Negotiate terms with third parties to ensure Council's risk assumption is consistent with risk appetite and risk parameters.
Work with project managers and key contracting departments to provide ongoing training to assist in identifying risks during the planning phase of a contract, allowing for timely incorporation of appropriate risk management measures (e.g., risk transfer language).
Participate in all aspects (coverage, rate, terms & conditions) of the Council's property program, working directly with underwriters.
Present, market, and negotiate Rail Liability policies directly to underwriters, leveraging knowledge of rail contracts, operations, safety, and claim management, to obtain insurance that provides appropriate coverage at the most competitive rate.
Direct insurance broker in the marketing and placement of other Council insurance policies (e.g., crime, police professional, cyber, liability, rolling stock, etc.), balancing premium, coverage, and contract compliance. 
What education and experience are required for this job (minimum qualifications)
A Bachelor's degree in risk management, business, finance or closely related field AND nine or more years of progressive experience in risk management or claim management including five or more years of progressive supervisory or management experience
