Event Recap: 2026 Massachusetts RIMS Annual Educational Conference

Thank you to everyone who attended the 2026 Massachusetts RIMS Annual Educational Conference, presented in conjunction with The Insurance Library and hosted by Liberty Mutual in Boston. The conference brought together risk management and insurance professionals for a full day of timely, practical education and thoughtful discussion across a broad range of industry topics.

The program featured concurrent educational sessions addressing travel risk management, business interruption, alternative risk transfer, credit insurance, builder's risk, and marine risk, along with a luncheon keynote presentation by Justin Murphy, Director of Risk Management for the Boston Celtics. Drawing on experience spanning both the insurance brokerage sector and enterprise risk leadership, Justin provided insight into how insurance strategy and risk governance operate within a high‑profile, performance‑driven organization, highlighting the unique operational, contractual, and reputational risks managed in professional sports.

We are grateful to all of our presenters for sharing their expertise and to attendees for their engagement throughout the day. Selected presentations from the conference will be made available on the RIMS website for reference. Event Recap: DATA COLLECTION FOR DECISION MAKERS

Date: February 19, 2026

MRIMS extends a big “thank you” to Omar Kahn and Moun Seo from Moody's. Their program was a substantive and engaging session focused on the data that underwriters rely on, including firmographics, financials, risk profiles, and sentiment, and how AI, APIs, and scalable models are delivering that intelligence directly into underwriting workflows. The discussion moved beyond theory and into practical application.

Omar and Moun walked through what corporate risk managers should be evaluating today: ownership structure, financial health, KYC considerations, sanctions exposure, and hidden-entity risks. The demonstration of automated screening tools and 360-degree counterparty views was particularly useful in framing how visibility gaps can arise and how they can be addressed.

Overall, it was an interesting and productive meeting. What stood out most was how interactive the session became. The presenters raised important points, and the discussion helped crystallize where we may need to strengthen our approach to data governance, third-party risk review, and internal controls.

Event Recap: Breaking Down Silos with Integrated Risk Management

At our September MRIMS session, leaders from Bright Horizons and Origami Risk shared how integrated risk management is transforming decision-making across their organization. The panel, Dana Brainerd, Jr., VP Global Safety (Bright Horizons), Ali LaFayette, Seanor Sales Executive (Origami Risk) and Jason Malpass, Senior Sales Executive (Origami Risk), explored the journey from siloed data and fragmented processes to a unified, technology-driven approach.

Attendees learned about Bright Horizons’ global footprint, the initial challenges of managing risk and safety across diverse teams, and how leveraging Origami Risk’s platform enabled smarter, faster, and more resilient decisions. The session highlighted practical strategies for breaking down barriers between departments, supporting growth and acquisitions, and using real-time analytics for actionable insights. Speakers also discussed unique use cases, lessons learned, and offered advice for organizations seeking to modernize their risk and safety management.

Event Recap: Product Contamination Risk

Date: January 15, 2026

The Massachusetts Chapter of RIMS held its January monthly meeting on the 15th at the UMass Club in Boston, hosted by Aon Risk Services. The session focused on product contamination and was presented by Jean McDermott‑Lucey, Managing Director and National Practice Leader for Crisis Management and Product Recall & Contamination, as well as a 2022 Power Broker.

The program was well attended, and the content was both informative and practical, covering the distinctions between product contamination and product recall, along with guidance on coverage enhancements and clarifying less obvious coverage triggers. If you have the opportunity to attend one of Jean’s presentations, it’s well worth your time.

The 43rd MRIMS Spring Educational Conference, hosted in conjunction with The Insurance Library and generously sponsored by Liberty Mutual at their Boston headquarters, delivered a dynamic and enriching experience for all attendees. The day featured expert-led sessions covering cutting-edge topics in insurance such as AI, RiskTech, legal interpretations of coverage, and hurricane-related claims. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the outstanding speakers and Liberty Mutual for their support, and a special acknowledgment to The Insurance Library for their continued partnership in advancing insurance education.

Scheider – Partner, Morrison & Mahoney. Participant interaction was high discussing specifics on the calculation and pitfalls associated with the completion of BI worksheets and the establishment of a process for dispute resolution. Sadly, the program was only two hours but could have run all day. I am adding some new contacts to my pool of key support personnel, sending out my first project today!"

Event Recap: April 2025 CHAPTER MEETING: InternationAL Risk

At our April 23rd MRIMS session, Regina DeBenedictis of Chubb delivered a comprehensive presentation on navigating the complex insurance needs of companies operating across borders. Attendees gained valuable insight into the risks facing importers, exporters, and multinational businesses, as well as strategic guidance on structuring global insurance programs.

The session explored key distinctions between admitted and non-admitted coverage, compliance with local regulations, and the design and benefits of Controlled Master Programs (CMPs). This session equipped risk professionals with actionable strategies to streamline global coverage, avoid coverage gaps, and strengthen multinational compliance. Many thanks to Regina and the Chubb team for making this event a standout success.
