We are looking for a Risk & Insurance Manager to support our rapidly growing global business. This person would join a new practice group within the legal team, have a high degree of autonomy and responsibility within their role, and own and drive high-value, highly-visible matters critical to Wayfair’s growth and success.

A successful candidate will be hard-working, pragmatic, and solutions-oriented and have a strong background in risk, including insurance placement, risk mitigation, claims management and captive insurance programs.

This position will be based in our Boston office, with optional hybrid work schedule flexibility.

What You'll Do

  • End-to-end ownership, support and management of insurance procurement and risk transfer processes across all lines of coverage, including data gathering and application preparation, underwriter presentations, program design and negotiation, and claims administration processes.
  • Research, evaluate and make recommendations regarding current and evolving trends in risk/insurance management, safety, loss control and claims management strategies.
  • Partner closely with stakeholders and the broader legal and finance teams to drive risk-related strategic initiatives, including programs to automate and improve low value claims and their outcomes, workplace health and safety and loss control initiatives, new captive insurance applications and ongoing captive administration, COI workstreams, and TPA applications.
  • Develop a risk finance strategy to overlay our ERM process and guide our decisions on where, when and how to retain and transfer risk (e.g. when to buy insurance vs. self insure, deciding how much limit to buy and how to structure retentions/deductibles, etc.).
  • Advise the business on risk and insurance-related matters, including contract standards for insurance and indemnification provisions, supplier and partner diligence efforts, COI collection and verification processes, and policy coverage determinations.
  • Centralize, automate and streamline risk program data inputs (e.g. casualty data inputs, including payroll, vehicle fleet, real property information and headcount) and manage those inputs throughout coverage periods and as the business evolves.
  • Support risk identification and mitigation efforts, including our Enterprise Risk Management program.

What You'll Need

  • 5+ years in risk/insurance management
  • Excellent analytical, writing and communication skills.
  • Experience managing and executing large projects end-to-end including project management, data gathering, modeling, problem-solving and communicating recommendations.
  • Experience in loss sensitive programs, loss forecasting and collateral calculation is preferred.
  • Highly effective, business-friendly and persuasive communication skills including excellent negotiation and relationship-building skills.
  • Organized and able to prioritize, multi-task, meet deadlines and maintain flexibility in a fast-paced, ambiguous and changing environment.
  • Self-motivated to seek out challenges and tenacious in pursuit of excellent outcomes; willing to roll-up sleeves, pitch-in and tackle problems of all shapes and sizes.
