Interns Funded by Spencer Foundation and DFW RIMS
Internships provide opportunities to experiment and pursue careers that match academic and personal interests and to help students become viable, experienced job applicants when seeking employment after graduation. In fact, many employers consider internship experience in the hiring process, and often look to their own interns as the best potential candidates for full-time positions. Professors and students at Baylor, SMU and UNT tell us that internships are the most valuable experience we can provide to a student.
The Spencer Educational Foundation is pleased to offer DFW RIMS members the opportunity to participate and receive grants to administer a Spencer Student Internship Program locally! Grants of up to $4,000 each, to compensate the intern, will be awarded and your DFW RIMS Chapter may be able to supplement that amount up to $5,000 each (depending on number of applications).
Employer Criteria
Employers must be active members of the Risk and Insurance Management Society, Inc. (RIMS) and must commit to an internship of eight weeks or more. If you are interested in participating in this exciting and rewarding program, please submit a two- or three-page proposal outlining:
- The name of the intern or the university you will approach for a suitable intern. (If you are selected to receive an internship grant, you must secure a commitment from an intern within 60 days of receiving your grant acceptance letter)
- The meaningful projects or responsibilities the intern will have
Through our summer internships, students learn about the field in a real world business setting where they can quickly apply what they know, respond to new experiences, and begin to develop contacts in the industry. This grant is provided to companies to hire an intern in their Risk Management/Insurance Department. Those selected for the grant must confirm who they have selected as an intern within 60 days.
