PRESENTATION TOPIC
A Dynamic Duo - Wearables & Ergonomics – How the two work together to prevent injury and reduce cost.
Ergonomics (or human factors) is the scientific discipline concerned with the understanding of interactions among humans and other elements of a system, and the profession that applies theory, principles, data, and other methods to design in order to optimize human well-being and overall system performance.
Wearable technology in the workplace provides an opportunity for employees and employers to make real-time or over-time adjustments to behaviors and tasks that have or could cause injury and impact the human/work-environment interface. However, the technology must be successfully deployed in the workplace and demonstrate a real return on investment for it to be accepted and properly leveraged.
During this session, we’ll look at the basics of human factors engineering from a historical and pragmatic perspective. We will also highlight positive outcomes that employers and employees have realized over a week, a month, six months, and a year of wearables data collection by understanding outliers, pre-loss indicators, and enterprise-level risk and taking appropriate risk mitigation actions.
We will learn how data from wearable technology can inform ergonomic evaluations over time and discuss how to gain employee and employer acceptance of wearables in the workplace.

Presented by: Peter Linn, Managing Director, Marsh & Jen Thorson, COO & Founder, Modjoul
Peter Linn is a Managing Director at Marsh responsible for supporting and advancing client relationships through coordination with industry leaders, risk practice leaders, and external channels. Peter has spoken to industry leaders, risk managers, and safety professionals around the world on varied topics such as collaborative value creation, digital engagement, leadership, safety management systems, and various EHS and Fire Protection safety topics in the manufacturing, chemical, and retail industries.
As a former executive at AIG, Ms. Thorson had also seen a lot of unnecessary workplace injuries and fatalities. She has also been a long-time customer of athletic wearables. When collaborating with Mr. Martinez on the idea of Modjoul, Ms. Thorson jumped at the opportunity to bring safety and productivity insights to the employee / employer market through the use of a wearable. Jen Thorson is Chief Operating Officer and founder at Modjoul.

If you need to cancel your registration, a mandatory email must be sent to the Chapter Secretary by 5:00 pm on the Friday preceding the meeting. Late cancellations will be charged the non-member fee for lunch.
