SPEAKER
Ergin Akbas, Senior Manager – Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Management Systems- Avangrid

Ergin Akbaş has spent his career focused on making work safer, for people, for the environment, and for the communities they serve. His professional journey took a defining turn during his work on the Hoosac Wind Farm project in Massachusetts, where he developed a deep commitment to protecting both people and the planet.
Under his leadership, Avangrid, one of the largest utilities in the United States with over 8,000 employees and an extensive contractor workforce, implemented a single, integrated EHS Management System that systematically identifies risks, puts controls in place, and holds leaders accountable for preventing harm to both people and the environment. That system is independently third-party certified to internationally recognized standards for occupational safety and environmental management, reflecting a disciplined, risk-based approach rather than reactive compliance.
Ergin is also a strong advocate for inclusive, psychologically safe workplaces where people feel empowered to speak up and perform at their best. He lives in Fairport, New York, with his wife and two children, and a proud member of the Bills Mafia! He believes that balancing professional responsibility with family life brings perspective to how he leads and connects with others.
